Allkins notches 50th as GM Ice Dogs defeat Norskies

DRYDEN, Ont. – The red-hot Dryden GM Ice Dogs saw Braeden Allkins score his 50th goal of the season helping his team defeat the visiting Thief River Falls Norskies 5-2 Saturday night in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Memorial Arena.

Thief River Falls started strong in the contest grabbing an early lead as Keaton Huot collected his 21st of the campaign 61 seconds after the opening face-off.

Dryden tied it later in the frame when Cory Dennis found the back of the net for the 11th time in 2016-17.

Eric Stout then gave the home side the lead five minutes into the middle stanza as he picked up No. 29 on the year.

Entering the third, Jacen Bracko put in the eventual game-winner at 5:03 to make it 3-1 GM Ice Dogs.

Battling back, the Norskies moved back to within one midway the stanza on a Jared Pederson effort.

Then at 14:48 Allkins etched him name in the Dryden record books by becoming the first Ice Dogs player to ever reach the 50-goal plateau.

With the tally, Allkins also became just the third skater in the 16-year history of the SIJHL to score 50 in a season on a night in which he also extended a consecutive game point streak to 10 in the process.

Kory McEwen (North Stars – 69) and Chris Bryson (Schreiber Diesels – 56) are the only other two skaters to accomplish the feat.

McEwen set the league-mark back in 2005-06 while Bryson supplied his total the following campaign.

Tristan Knott wrapped up the scoring Saturday with a late empty netter.

Dryden outshot Thief River Falls 43-39 with Patrick Zubick picking up the win and Ryan Buttazzoni the setback.
