Thief River Falls remains perfect with OT win at Dryden

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League-leading and Canadian Junior Hockey League No. 1 Ranked Thief River Falls Norskies rallied late to tie it then won it in the final moments of overtime as they improved to 9-0 on the season with a dramatic 5-4 victory Friday over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs at Memorial Arena.

Cody Aarvig put the visitors in front four and a half minutes into the contest before Bryce McDonald tied it for Dryden at 15:08.

However Mitchell Soderberg put the Norskies into the lead again a couple of shifts later.

Heading into the second stanza, the GM Ice Dogs’ Trey Palermo and Aarvig traded tallies before the home side picked up markers from Josh Sylvain and Cory Dennis to give them a 4-3 cushion after 40 minutes.

It stayed that way until late in regulation where Connor Bowey tied it for Thief River Falls with 42 seconds to go.

Then in OT the SIJHL’s leading scorer and point producer, in Parker Simsonson, won it for the Norskies at 4:36 of OT.

Brock Lefebvre was stellar in the visitors’ net making 47 saves on the night.

Logan Sawka meanwhile suffered the loss seeing 23 shots in defeat.

Despite the setback, Dryden has still yet to lose in regulation so far, this season as they slipped to 6-0-2-1 on the campaign.
