Ivy posts 1st SIJHL shutout as Iron Rangers surprise GM Ice Dogs 3-0

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Rob Ivy handled all 31 shots he faced while Zac Horn tallied twice Friday as the Minnesota Iron Rangers surprised the visiting Dryden GM Ice Dogs 3-0 in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

An early power play helped Minnesota get going offensively as Mark Sanchez scored on the man advantage at 4:38 as his ninth of the season proved to be the game-winner.

The Iron Rangers came right back and added one at even strength just 27 seconds later with Horn’s first of the evening.

It remained 2-0 for the home side through the rest of the session, as well as the middle stanza and into the third period.

In that final frame Dryden pumped 15 shots on Ivy, but could not solve him before Horn iced the win with a late empty netter as Minnesota completed the victory over the defending SIJHL champions.

Jacob Gnidziejko faced 27 attempts in defeat for the GM Ice Dogs.

The same two teams meet again Saturday back in Hoyt Lakes at 7 p.m.
