Miners rally to edge GM Ice Dogs

COCHENOUR, Ont. – A pair of third period tallies helped the English River Miners rally from a one-goal deficit and defeat the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 4-3 Friday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Cochenour Arena.

Ted Davis staked Dryden to the lead eight and a half minutes into the contest only to see Dante Tisi draw English River level in the latter stages of the opening frame.

Moving on to the second stanza, the Miners went in front at 4:59 courtesy of Jacob Siebenga.

Battling back, the GM Ice Dogs tied it at 10:48 on Conner Mowatt’s fourth of the season then took a 3-2 cushion into the third as Jacen Bracko buried his league-leading 40th during a power play chance a couple shifts later.

The back and forth affair saw the home side tie things up once more at 12:30 of the final session thanks to another off the stick of Siebenga.

English River then got the game-winner with 5:07 remaining in regulation as Sam Cirone converted during a man advantage opportunity to pull out the win for the Miners.

Michael Lenko had 41 saves to record the win while Landon Pavlisin faced 30 attempts in defeat for Dryden.
