Northland nabs another SIJHLer in Ice Dogs’ Perrier
DRYDEN, Ont. – The Northland College men’s hockey program likes what they see in players from the Superior International Junior Hockey League. The Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association school has recruited yet another SIJHLer in former Dryden Ice Dogs goaltender Ian Perrier. Seven alumni from the league skated for the Lumberjacks last season with Northland adding three more for the 2011-12 campaign in Perrier, Matt Valley of the Thunder Bay North Stars and Garrett Nystedt of the Fort Frances Lakers. Former Dryden Ice Dog Jon Mitchell has committed to the Nipissing Lakers (CIS) for the upcoming season. Mitchell, a 6-foot, 190-pound defenceman from Anola, Manitoba, has scored more than 50 points in each of the the past two SIJHL seasons. He captained the Dryden Ice Dogs to the league finals each of the last two seasons, while twice winning the defenceman of the year award in the Superior International Jr. Hockey League. As well, he earned league MVP honors this past year.

On the eve of the Ice Dogs vs. Lakers game on Wednesday Feb. 16, 2011, the S.I.J.H.L announced its first League Award for Best Defenceman for the 2010-2011 season. And for the second year in a row, the award goes to the Dryden Ice Dogs Captain, Jon Mitchell. In his third and final year as a member of the Dryden Ice Dogs, Mitchell has averaged a point per game, and sits SIXTH ALL TIME in offensive production among Blue Liners with 107 Points ( 36 goals and 71 assists ).
