Update on Marlon Gardner, former Ice Dogs player;

The Dryden Ice Dogs are pleased to announce that graduating player, Marlon Gardner, has accepted a scholarship to Neumann College NCAA Division III. Marlon played 2 years with the Ice Dogs and helped the Ice Dogs win the SIJHL Championship last season. Marlon would like to thank the Dryden Ice Dogs, the City of Dryden and fans for their support. Marlon also gives thanks to his family and friends from Eagle Lake for their support throughout his junior and minor hockey playing days. The Dryden Ice Dogs wish Marlon the best at Neumann College next season and thank him for his dedication to the Ice Dogs.

The Dryden Ice Dogs are pleased to announce the signing of three more players for the 2008/2009 season.

Tanner Harms, 6' and 175lbs, is a center man who hails from Steinbach, Manitoba and played last year for the Eastman Selects in the Manitoba AAA midget hockey league. Tanner recorded 10 goals adding 18 assists for 28 points in 39 games.

Graham Leiding, from Morden Manitoba, 6' 1" and 175 lbs played right wing for the Pembina Valley Hawks last year in the Manitoba AAA midget hockey league. In 40 games, Graham recorded 15 goals adding 16 assists for 31 points.

Jon Mowat, from Norway House, Manitoba, is a left winger who played last year for the Norman North Stars in the Manitoba AAA midget hockey league. At 5' 10" and 180 lbs Jon recorded 8 goals, adding 13 assists for 21 points in 38 games.

Brenden Church signs on with the Ice Dogs
The Dryden Ice Dogs are pleased to announce the player signing of an 18 year old center man, Brenden Church. Brenden, who is from Dryden, has played all his minor and high school hockey in Dryden. Brenden has good speed, can read the ice very well and has a good shot along with the ability to set up plays. The Ice Dogs are looking forward to having Brenden help the Ice dogs into another successful season.

The Dryden Ice Dogs are pleased to announce that 07/08 captain Colin McIntosh has committed to Utica College NCAA Division lll . Colin has 3 years junior A behind him and the last one with the Dryden Ice Dogs. Last year in the regular season, Colin recorded 34 goals along with 41 assists for 75 points in 42 games. Colin also added 9 power play goals and 4 short handed goals throughout the regular season. The Ice Dogs wish Colin the very best at Utica and his future endeavours.

The Dryden Ice Dogs are pleased to announce that graduating left winger Nicolas Doiron has accepted a scholarship to Norwich University. Doiron led the Ice Dogs with 85 points this past season. Nic recorded 37 goals, 48 assists along with 10 power play goals and 3 short handed goals in 50 regular season games. Doiron has played for the Ice Dogs for the past 2 seasons and gives thanks to the Dryden Ice Dogs hockey club for all their support. The Dryden Ice Dogs wish Nicolas the very best in his future at Nowich and thank him for his hard work on and off the ice while he was a member of the Dryden Ice Dogs

The Dryden Ice Dogs are pleased to announce that 20 year old goal tender Graeme Harrington has accepted a scholarship to University of North Dakota (UND  NCAA Division 1). Graeme has been between the pipes for the Ice Dogs for two seasons.  This past season Graeme had a 2.95 goals against average and a .904 save %. Graeme has great work ethic on and off the ice and gives thanks to his team mates, fans and billets for the past two years. The Dryden Ice Dogs wish Graeme the very best at UND and thank him for his contribution to the Ice Dogs program.

Carson Shields Off to OPJHL
The Dryden Ice Dogs have made their first moves of the off-season. The SIJHL Champions have traded defenceman Carson Shields to the Newmarket Hurricanes for future considerations. Coach-General Manager Randy Lulashnick says they have acquired defenceman Derrick Osborne from the Marathon Renegades. Osborne is 6 foot 1 and 180-pounds. The 19-year-old recorded 3 goals and 9 assists in 32 games with the Renegades last season.
Lulashnick says a number of players have expressed an interest in playing with the Ice Dogs next season.

Tickets and Flex Passes will be on sale at Barrett's Sporting Goods on Saturday from 10 until 4.
The SIJHL Champions will play 26-games at the 'Dog Pound' this year and early-bird prices are in effect.

CJAHL Announces General Manager and Head Coach For Team Canada East - 2008 World Junior A Challenge

The CJAHL in partnership with Hockey Canada announced today the two individuals who will perform the roles of General Manager and Head Coach for Team Canada East at the 2008 World Junior A Challenge.

Team Canada East stated that they have appointed Marty Abrams from the Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League (OPJHL), as their General Manager. 

“Marty did a tremendous job with Team Canada East at this event the last two years,” declared the CJAHL Representative for Team Canada East, Brent Ladds. “As an Assistant Coach in 2006 and as a General Manager in 2007, his leadership skills and determination led Team Canada East to an appearance in the gold medal final for two consecutive years. We are optimistic that he has the knowledge and experience to lead the team to a gold medal finish this November.”

Abrams, as the Head Coach and General Manager Wellington Dukes has amassed a 342-91-30-13 record during his 7 seasons with the Dukes and led his team to their second consecutive Eastern Conference Championship this season.

Team Canada East also announced today that they have appointed Mark Grady from the Cumberland Grads of the Central Junior A Hockey League (CJHL), as the team’s head coach.

“Mark Grady is an excellent coach who showed that he has the right combination of character and commitment to lead this team at the 2008 World Junior A Challenge,” admitted Brent Ladds. “Mark did a great job last season as an assistant coach for Team Canada East. We have no doubt that he will use his experience gained from last year’s event, and will translate that into a winning formula to take the team to top.”

Grady, as the Head Coach / General Manager of the Cumberland Grads, led his team to the top of the Yzerman Divison this season in the competitive CJHL. 

The 2008 World Junior A Challenge will take place from November 1st to 9th in Camrose, Alberta. Canadawill look to continue its tremendous success at the event, as Team Canada East played Team Canada West in the championship finals of the 2006 and 2007 World Junior A Challenge events, winning silver and gold medals respectively in back-to-back years.

CJAHL Announces General Manager and Head Coach For Team Canada West - 2008 World Junior A Challenge

The CJAHL in partnership with Hockey Canada announced today the two individuals who will perform the roles of General Manager and Head Coach for Team Canada West at the 2008 World Junior A Challenge.

Team Canada West stated that they have appointed Leonard Strandberg from the OCN Blizzard of the MJHL, as their General Manager. 

 “Leonard brings a generous history of 20 years worth of experience in Junior A hockey to the table. He has outstanding skills that will assist the leagues in the west, to continue to build a solid foundation for this important hockey development program,” declared the CJAHL Representative for Team Canada West, Kim Davis. “We are optimistic that Leonard will be an excellent selection to lead Team Canada West in its quest to win its third consecutive gold medal at the World Junior A Challenge.”

Team Canada West also announced today that they have appointed Boris Rybalka from the Camrose Kodiaks of the AJHL, as the team’s head coach.

“We are very delighted to appoint Boris as the Head Coach for Team Canada West, for the third consecutive year,” pronounced Kim Davis. “Boris did a phenomenal job the past two years for Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge. We are very optimistic he will be able to repeat this excellence. With the tournament being held this year in his hometown, this is a very special occasion for Boris to coach the team in front of his family, friends, and fans in the city of Camrose.

2008 WORLD JUNIOR A CHALLENGE MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT

The World Junior A Hockey Challenge is coming to Camrose, Alberta taking place from November 1st to 9th, 2008 at the sparkling new Edgeworth Centre. 

The ‘House of Thunder’ Opening Ceremonies - presented in partnership by the ‘House of Thunder’ motorcycle shop and by the local radio station, ‘98.1 Cam FM’; will be held November 1st, 2008 and will feature the first ever concert in the beautiful new facility. 

Canada’s own Tom Cochrane will be the headlining act for the evening.

HOCKEY CANADA ANNOUNCES 2008 RBC JUNIOR A SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
The 2008 RBC Junior A Scholarship recipients, one from each of the CJAHL’s 10 leagues, receive $1,000 toward post-secondary education, with one national winner receiving $5,000. The winner of the national RBC Junior A Scholarship was selected from a list of finalists by a national panel of Hockey Canada appointed junior hockey representatives.

The recipient of the $5,000 national RBC Junior A Scholarship is Danny Mireault – Action de Joliette. Mireault will be presented with his national scholarship award at the 2008 RBC Cup, which takes place May 3rd to 11th in Cornwall, ON. The program was designed to provide an opportunity for Junior A players to apply for a scholarship based on their outstanding academic accomplishments and extraordinary community service. Players eligible for the RBC Junior A Scholarships must be a Canadian citizen, on a Canadian Junior A team roster, and registered or applying for full-time post-secondary studies. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, hockey achievement, and community involvement. All Junior A hockey players in Canada who currently attend a Canadian post-secondary institution are also eligible for the Nickerson Family Awards, which are made possible through the Friends of the RBC Society in Fort McMurray, AB. Travis McCarron of the Antigonish Bulldogs is the $1,000 winner, and Graeme Harrington of the Dryden Ice Dogs is the $500 winner.

Hockey Canada is pleased to inform you that Graeme Harrington of the Dryden Ice Dogs, has finished third place in the RBC Financial Group - 2007 / 08 National Scholarship contest! As a result, Graeme has been awarded the Nickerson Family Award in the amount of a $500 scholarship to be used towards a post secondary school in Canada

The next stage in the process, will be the issuing of the scholarship cheques which will happen in June 2008. Because Graeme has been named both the $1,000 League recipient and he has won the $500 Nickerson Family Award, he will be entitled to a cheque in the amount of $1,500. It is important to note however, that the issuing Nickerson Family Award is dependant upon whether Graeme decides to attend post secondary school in Canada

Ice Dogs clinch first by virtue of a 1-1 regulation time tie.
The Dryden Ice dogs got the point they needed to win the regular season title outright in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Fort William North Stars in Thunder Bay. The game, tied from the first period on, alowed the Ice Dogs to recieve the point they needed to put them out of reach of the Stars for first.  North Stars, however, scored with 19.8 seconds left for the win. Chris Kitt scored the Ice Dogs lone goal.

The SIJHL is pleased to announce 

Goaltender Graeme Harrington of the Dryden Ice Dogs as this year's recipient of the Royal Bank's $1000.00 Scholarship Award. Graeme will receive his cheque direct from Hockey Canada after the RBC Championships made out to the school of his choice.  Graeme is now entered against the other nine league winners for a national $5000.00 prize. 

    

In 30 games played (1,744 mins) his game save percentage is .903, facing 880 shots, allowing 85 goals.

Hockey Canada News Release     CAMROSE, ALBERTA TO HOST 2008 WORLD JUNIOR A CHALLENGE

CALGARY, AB – Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Junior A Hockey League (CJAHL), announced on Thursday that Camrose, AB will host the 2008 World Junior A Challenge from November 2-9, 2008.

All 13 games of the 2008 World Junior A Challenge will take place at EnCana Arena in the Edgeworth Centre, home of the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Camrose Kodiaks.  It will mark the first time in the three-year history of the event that the entire tournament will be played out of one venue – the 2006 World Junior A Challenge was hosted by Yorkton and Humboldt, SK, while the 2007 event was split between Trail and Nelson, BC. In addition, EnCana Arena will be the site for the Opening Ceremonies on November 1st, which will feature a full-length concert by an artist to be announced.

The 2008 World Junior A Challenge will follow the same format as previous years – two Canadian entries will be joined by four international teams. Canada West, Russia and Belarus will compete in Group A, while Canada East, the USA and Germany will make up Group B. The group winners will receive an automatic bye to the semi-finals, while the second and third place teams will crossover for the quarterfinals.

Tickets for the 2008 World Junior A Challenge will go on sale beginning at 10:00 a.m. MT on Friday, February 22, 2008 through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.ca). Three ticket packages are available:

 1st Star Package ($499) – tickets to all 13 games, as well as the Opening Ceremonies and concert; the package also includes complimentary food, a souvenir tournament program, game sheets and stats and full bar service

 2nd Star Package ($249) – tickets to all 13 games, as well as the Opening Ceremonies and concert

 3rd Star Package ($199) – tickets to all 13 games

The Ice Dogs have cracked the top 10.  The Canadian Junior A Hockey League announced today its latest Top 15 rankings  and our Ice Dogs are ranked #10.
