The Dryden Ice Dogs took it to the road this weekend, and headed south of the boarder to Spooner, WI.  As a member of the Minnesota Jr Hockey League, the Wisconsin Mustangs are doing a series of exhibition games against teams in the S.I.J.H.L.  Before the weekend, the Mustangs were at 5 Games played with a record of 1-5.  The Ice Dogs didn’t help their case this weekend, taking both games.  Saturday, the Ice Dogs skated to a 4-2 victory.  Then on Sunday the Ice Dogs skated to a 5-3 Victory, giving them the 4 points on the weekend.  Games against Wisconsin counts towards the total points in the S.I.J.H.L, but not for the Mustangs in the MNJHL.

Members of this years Dryden Ice Dogs Squad were paid a surprise visit from 2 Former Ice Dog players.  Both playing for the Northland College Lumberjacks, Nicolas Doiron and Colin McIntosh made the short trip in to watch their former team.

The Ice Dogs did not return home until the early hours of Monday morning, but will be back on the ice Tuesday to prepare for their next league action which is coming up on Friday December 4, 2009 as they host the Fort Frances Lakers.  Gametime is 7:30PM (CST) at the Dryden Memorial Arena.

OLYMPICS CLOSING CEREMONYThe 2009-2010 Dryden Ice Dogs have a good number of players that come to us from south of the boarder; Texas, California, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan.  One in particular took part in a very memorable event back in 2002, #16 Henry Vadnais comes to us from Salt Lake City, Utah.  At the age of 11, Henry was part of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.  During the closing ceremonies, if you remember, they had children skate out holding Laterns, well Vadnais was one of them. “Didn’t get to see much of the games, as we were rehearsing every day ” Vadnais said, when asked about the Olympics in Salt Lake City.  Still was an experience he added, saying it was one he will never forget.

4pt Night For Mike Lennon, As Ice Dogs Win In Overtime

#10 Mike Lennon Tonight ( 2G-2A-4pts ) Season (7G-25A-32pts)

What a game!  Started out with Dryden having FULL CONTROL early, and ended in an Overtime Win in Sioux Lookout, Ontario tonight.  There wasn’t much happening for the first 10 minutes of the first period, besides back and forth action.  Then with Sioux Lookout being short a man, Andrew Hansen scored on the powerplay at 11:09 of the first, with Tim Kavanaugh and Mike Lennon getting the assists.  Then at 14:10 of the first period, Sioux would find themselves down a man once again, leaving the door open for Mike Lennon to score on the powerplay, after getting the pass from Kyle Heck at 15:26.  That would make the score 2-0 in favour of the Ice Dogs, and 2 for 2 on the powerplay for Dryden’s league leading special teams.

Second Period we go, with Dryden maintaining the 2 goal lead.  Former Dryden Ice Dog, and Sioux Lookouts newest Addition, Darren Turner would get his first goal, being back in the S.I.J.H.L making it 2-1 for the Ice Dogs early in the second.  Then late in the second period, Sioux would add two more to make it 3-2 in favour of the Flyers.

Wouldn’t be long into the third, before Justin Lightfoot would light the lamp, to tie things up at 3.  The goal would come at 2:23 of the third with the assists going to Tanner Harms and Mike Lennon.  Not much else would happen for the rest of regulation time, as the teams would find themselves going into Overtime.

Overtime would be short lived as Mike Lennon would score the winner, and add his fourth point on the night at 1:31 of overtime.  Kyle Heck would get the assist on the winner.

Other notes from the game : Affiliated player, Kevin Raine,  suited up for his second game with the Ice Dogs.   for tonights match.  Raine had a good showing, proving he has the strength on the back end, battling hard in the corners and making a few good checks.

The Ice Dogs will now come home, and back their bags, and get ready to make the trek across the boarder, as they are heading out this weekend to face the Wisconsin Mustangs in a two game set.  Again, these games will count for points for the Ice Dogs, but not for Wisconsin.  We will keep you as up to date with the scores and stats as we can.
