The Dryden Ice Dogs reached what they were going out to do this weekend, as they bring home 4 points this weekend, after defeating the K&A Wolverines in both games. After skating to a 6-5 win on Friday night, the Ice Dogs faced the Wolverine again on Saturday night.
Deja Vu as Saturday night’s match began, as K&A Wolverine would hop out to a quick one goal lead, as they score at 1:11 of the first period. However, just over 2 minutes later, Chad Liley would score the even up goal at 3:23, with the assist going to Kyle Heck. The Wolverines would then put the pressure on, scoring 2 unanswered goals, to get teh 3-1 lead over the Ice Dogs. Chad Liley would then score on the powerplay giving him his second of the game, with the helpers going to Tanner Harms and Kyle Heck at 18:36 of the first to bring them within one.
With the score 3-2, Wolverines would make it 4-2 to kick off the second at 1:27 on the powerplay. Kevin Burton would score on the powerplay to make it 4-3 at 14:59 of the second, with the assists going to Tanner Harms and Brenden Church. Dryden would even things up before the 40 minute mark, as Jon Mitchell would find the back of the net, with the helpers going to Andrew Hansen and Brenden Church.
The Dryden Ice Dogs would come out in the third to outscore the Wolverines 3-1. The first for the Ice Dogs would come at 10:09 of the third, from the stick of Justin Lightfoot. Henry Vadnais and Connor Foster would get the assists. 5 minutes later, Chad Liley would get his hattrick at 15:28. Contributing to his hattrick, Kyle Heck and Connor Foster would get the helpers. With the score 6-4, the K&A would inch to within one, as they score at 18:57. With the last minute effort, the Wolverines would pull their Goalie, which would leave the net open for BJ McClellan as he gets the security marker late in the third.
The Dryden Ice Dogs would take the win, 7-5. Curtis Barker would get the win between the pipes for the Dogs, stopping 47 of 52 shots. Dryden will now prepare to face the Fort Frances Lakers in Fort Frances on Tuesday January 26, 2010.
