6 Goals, 13 Players pick up points, as Ice Dogs defeat Wolverines
The Dryden Ice Dogs and K&A Wolverines faced off against each other at the Tournament Centre in Thunder Bay, Ontario last night. The Wolverines hopped out to a quick one goal lead early in the first at 2:17 of the first. With Dryden finding themselves down early in the game, they responded with 3 unanswered goals in less than a minute, with Henry Vadnais starting the attack at 5:26 assisted by Chad Liley and Tanner Harms. Then at 5:38, Justin Lightfoot would light the lamp with the helpers going to Brendan Wertanen and Henry Vadnais. BJ McClellan would get the 3rd goal for the dogs at 6:19 assisted by brother Ben McClellan and Jon Mitchell. Dryden’s 3-1 lead wouldn’t last long, as K&A Wolverines would respond with 2 unanswered goals of their own to close off the period.
Connor Foster would get his first goal in an Ice Dogs Uniform at 6:46 on the PP, with the helpers going to Jon Mitchell and Kevin Burton. K&A Wolverines would then respond to tie things up at 4, before Brenden Church would score on the powerplay for the Dogs at 11:47. Tanner Harms and Kevin Burton would get the assists, on the goal, which gave Dryden a 5-4 lead heading into the second period.
At 6:14 of the third period, Kyle Heck would give Dryden the 2 goal lead with the assists going to Mike Lennon and Chad Liley. In a last minute effort, K&A would come within 1 at 12:33, but would end up being the final marker of the game. Dryden would defeat the K&A Wolverines 6-5 with 13 Ice Dogs taking part and getting points in the game. Josh Baker would get the win, stopping 26 of 31 shots.
In other S.I.J.H.L action, the Sioux Lookout Flyers defeated the Fort William Northstars in a Shootout. Former Ice Dogs Netminder, Peter Emery stopped 42 of 44 shots to get the win for the Flyers. With all 6 teams in action tonight, the Dryden Ice Dogs will go up against the Wolverines once again tonight in Thunder Bay starting at 6:30PM (CST).
