Dogs Defeat Lakers in a Close Match
The Dryden Ice Dogs traveled to Fort Frances, Ontario last night to face the Fort Frances Lakers. Ben McClellan would start it off for the Ice Dogs as he found the back of the net at 5:22 of the first to give the Dogs a one goal lead early in the first. Brother, BJ McClellan would get the assist. Fort Frances would tie things up before the end of the first, as they scored at 11:20.
The Second would only see one goal scored, and that would come from the stick of Ben McClellan giving the Ice Dogs a 2-1 lead, and Ben’s second goal of the game. Kevin Burton and BJ McClellan would get the helpers. With the score 2-1, Jon Mitchell would make it 3-1 in favour of the Ice Dogs, as he would score shorthanded very early into the third period at 1:33, with the assists going to Mike Lennon and Kevin Burton. Fort Frances would respond at 5:56 to make it 3-2. Jon Mitchell would then give Dryden a two goal lead once again at 13:26 with the feed coming from Mike Lennon and Ben McClellan. Fort Frances would capitalize on the powerplay at 15:09 to make it 4-3.
However, Josh Baker would spoil any last minute efforts Fort Frances would give, as the Dryden Ice Dogs would defeat the Fort Frances Lakers, 4-3. Baker would get the win between the pipes for the Ice Dogs, as he stopped 36 of 39 games. Ben McClellan would end up getting 3 points on the night, giving him the first star of the game.
The Dryden Ice Dogs will now have a break, and prepare to travel to Thunder Bay on Feb. 3, 2010 to face the Fort William Northstars.
