Dogs Victory, not the Only Victory Last Night
The Dryden Ice Dogs skated to two separate victory’s last night, with the help of the Canadian Cancer Society, The Dryden Police Service and Jordan Railian from the Riverview Lodge. First the Game notes….
The two teams found themselves tied after 20 minutes of play, as the Lakers would score first LATE in the first period, but Dryden responded 7 seconds later at 19:44 of the first, as Chad Liley scored, assisted by Kevin Burton. The second would see the Lakers score 2 unanswered goals, giving them a 3-1 at 10:28 of the second. However, Dryden wasn’t laying down, as they responded with 3 unanswered goals of their own, starting out with a shorthanded breakaway goal, from Jon Mitchell at 12:52 with the helper Kyle Heck. Then Kevin Burton would score on the powerplay at 15:33 with the assists going to Chad Liley and Jon Mitchell. That would even things up at 3, before BJ McClellan would get Dryden the lead at 17:34, with Tanner Harms getting the assist on that marker.
The third period would see Dryden getting three more, to Fort Frances’ one. Spencer Gyori would get things started in the third at 2:04, with the helpers going to Jon Mitchell and Kevin Burton., making it 5-3 for the Dogs. Then Mike Lennon would make it 6-3 in favour of the dogs, as he took the feed from Matthew Caulfield and Brenden Church, lighting the lamp at 6:58. Fort Frances would respond with their 4th of the game, then Chad Liley would score on the empty net, unassisted, to make it a 7-4 Final in favour of the Ice Dogs. Netminder Peter Emery would get the win, stopping 25 of 29 shots.
