Ice Dogs Take Game 3, After Going The Distance

The Dryden Ice Dogs have taken game two, after going to double overtime.  The first period would have no leader after 20 minutes, leaving the game scoreless.  However, the Lakers would get out to a quick 2 goal lead, after scoring their first goal at 10:39 of the second period, then again at 12:22 of the second period.  Just a little over a minute later, the Ice Dogs would come within one, as BJ McClellan would take the feed from brother Ben McClellan and Spencer Gyori to light the lamp at 13:59.

Dryden would tie things up at 4:03 of the third period has Brenden Church would even things up, with the assists going to Tanner Harms and Jon Mitchell.  The Ice Dogs would get their first lead in a game this series, as Mike Lennon would tickle the twine at 5:01, with the helper going to Andrew Hanson.  With the score 3-2 for the Ice Dogs, the Lakers would tie things up at 12:37, to make the score 3-3.

For the 5th time this year, the Ice Dogs would find themselves going to extra time against the Fort Frances Lakers, however, with it being Playoffs, it would take 2 Overtime Periods to finish this one.  The first overtime was 10 Minutes of play, with nothing being decided after the Lakers would outshoot the Ice Dogs 6-5.  It would only take 4:11 into the second overtime for Kevin Burton to find the back of the net, to give Dryden the win over the Fort Frances Lakers.  The assists on the winner went to Kyle Heck and Mike Lennon.  Dryden now leads the best of 7 series, 2 games to 1.

Having a solid semi final series, Jameson Shortreed would stop 56 shots out of 60 for the Fort Frances Lakers.  At the other end, Dryden’s Josh Baker would stop 37 of 40 shots to get the win for the Ice Dogs.  The two teams will now have one day to work on different aspects of their games, before Dryden will travel back to Fort Frances Monday March 22, 2010 to play game 4, of this best of 7 series.
