Its A First Place Round Robin Finish, as the Ice Dogs Defeat the Northstars!

The Dryden Ice Dogs are not only 3-0 in the Round Robin after tonights defeat of the Fort William Northstars, but have clinched FIRST PLACE in the Round Robin and gets their pick for the Semi-Finals.

As this one started, it didn’t seem like anything was going to go the Ice Dogs way.  Finding themselves down 2-0 within the first 7 minutes after giving up 2 powerplay goals, it was unclear how the rest of the game was gonna go.  The start of the second wasn’t any better, as Dryden would find themselves down 3-0 at the 3:30 mark of the second period.  However, Kyle Heck’s unassisted goal, on the powerplay at 6:02 of the second, was the wake up call the Ice Dogs needed.  At 7:31, while on the powerplay, Mike Lennon would light the lamp, with the assist going to Mark McDonald and Kyle Heck.  With the score 3-2, Kevin Burton would tie things up at 8:49, with the helpers going to Mark McDonald and Mike Lennon.  Thats right, it only took 2:47 to turn, in what looked as though an off night for the Dogs, into a hockey game again.

With the score tied at 3 after 40 minutes of play, Josh Baker, would stop all 13 shots in the third, while Dryden was held scoreless to bring this game to an all familiar scene between these two teams in recent games.  Overtime would see 5 on 5 for 10 minutes. At 6:04 of the overtime period, Dryden’s Kyle Heck would blast through the Defense, and into the Northstars Zone, ticklin’ the twine, as he scores the the WINNER in OT.  Josh Baker gets the win between the pipes for the Dogs, stopping 34 of 37 shots.

With the win, Dryden clinches top spot in the Round Robin, and will now get to select which team they will face for the Semi Final rounds.  But before any of that can happen, Dryden still has another game of the round robin, and that goes Saturday night in Sioux Lookout.  Gametime is 8:00PM (CST), CKDR will have the play by play starting at 7:45PM(CST)
