Miners earn 5th straight win

DRYDEN, Ont. – Braeden Pearce’s second goal of the game, coming 2:13 into overtime, was the difference as the English River Miners secured their fifth Superior International Junior Hockey League win in a row Friday as they edged the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 5-4 at Memorial Arena.

The Miners got off to a strong start grabbing a 2-0 lead after one period of play on a shorthanded marker by Pearce along with a power play effort from Ryder Prue.

English River then went up 3-0 early in the second thanks to a man advantage effort from Trevor Pereverzoff.

Dryden rallied before the frame was complete getting goals from Matt Leniuk and Eric Stout to pull within one.

However Nash Dabb made it 4-2 Miners with 1:37 to go in the session.

The GM Ice Dogs continued to push back compliments of Braeden Allkins at 13:33 and Stout’s second of the evening with just 19 seconds left in regulation to force extra time.

However English River would prevail on Pearce’s game-winner in OT to give the visitors the extra point on the night.

Spencer Eschyschyn made 35 saves to pick up the win for the Miners while Ben Dennis faced 31 shots in a losing cause for Dryden, who did secure a point in the setback.
