Miners’ Eschyschyn named SIJHL – Play It Again Sports player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that English River Miners goaltender Spencer Eschyschyn has been named the Play It Again Sports player of the week for the period ending Oct. 23.

In three starts last week the 18-year-old native of Kamloops, B.C., won all of them helping No. 16 CJHL-ranked English River move into second place in the SIJHL standings while also boasting the league’s best winning percentage.

Eschyschyn began by making 28 saves in a win over the visiting Fort Frances Lakers this past Tuesday.

Friday night he made another 35 more stops as English River defeated Dryden in overtime at Memorial Arena.

He then capped off his week on home ice by handling 34 attempts as the Miners were victorious again over the GM Ice Dogs Saturday.

Overall Eschyschyn is 5-0 in six appearances and sports a 3.04 goals-against average along with a .915 save percentage.

Also earning consideration for Play It Again Sports player of the week honours were the following:
