English River moves to 12th, Dryden remains honourable mention in CJHL rankings

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – On a franchise-record pace for wins the English River Miners continue to make a move up the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s weekly Top 20 rankings while the Dryden GM Ice Dogs remain in the hunt as well.

English River was slotted 12th in the 132-team CJHL this week while the Dryden GM Ice Dogs earned honourable mention status for a second consecutive week.

Under head coach and general manager Derek Sweet-Coulter, the Miners have gone 10-3-0-0 in Superior International Junior Hockey League play this season, including going 9-1 in their past 10 that featured a franchise-best eight-game win streak.

As for Dryden, the GM Ice Dogs are 8-2-1-0 and boast the best winning percentage in the SIJHL at .773.

They also hold two games in hand on the Miners who have a win mark of .769.

The new No. 1 team in the CJHL this week is College Francais de Longueuil of the QJHL.

Slipping to No. 2 is the MJHL’s Steinbach Pistons who lost a pair of one-goal games last week to fall from being the last unbeaten side in the CJHL.

Another QJHL squad in the Terrebonne Cobras was ranked No. 3. While two OJHL sides, in the Cobourg Cougars and Georgetown Raiders, round out the top five at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.
