Surging Miners win again

COCHENOUR, Ont. –  The English River Miners got a goal and assist from Austin Kuhn, Trevor Pereverzoff and Sidney Gladue to help them edge the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 3-1 Friday night in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Cochenour Arena.

English River opened the scoring 11:34 into the contest on Pereverzoff’s eighth of the campaign.

A Dryden power play allowed them to tie it 15:17 into the second as Eric Stout collected his league-leading 19th goal of the season.

The Miners came right back with a man advantage effort of their own just over a minute later on Kuhn’s eventual game-winner.

It stayed 2-1 for the home side until late in regulation when Gladue secured the win with an empty net effort with 27 seconds left to finish things off.

Michael Lenko was busy in the English River goal as he made 38 saves to record the win.

Patrick Zubick stopped 26 of 28 in defeat for the GM Ice Dogs.
