Special teams send Dryden past English River
COCHENOUR, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs scored three times on the power play and twice more while shorthanded to help them skate to a 5-2 victory over the English River Miners Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Cochenour Arena.
Man-down markers from Derek McPhail and Braedyn Aubin gave the visitors a two-goal lead after one period of play.
Aubin then made it 3-0 Dryden 3:56 of the second as he converted on a man advantage opportunity.
English River got that back with a power play effort of their own two minutes later, from Wade Auger, but Braeden Allkins matched that at 11:31.
The lone even strength effort of the night was supplied by the Miners’ Jamie Driedger at 14:08 to make it 4-2 GM Ice Dogs after two.
Allkins then capped off a four-point night with the second of the game and 13th overall during a Dryden man advantage at 4:54 of the third to round out the scoring.
Shots on goal in the contest were 35 apiece with Ben Dennis picking up the win and Michael Lenko the loss.
