Dryden defeats English River 5-3

COCHENOUR, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs earned a second straight triumph over the English River Miners this week after skating to a 5-3 victory Friday evening in penalty-filled Superior International Junior Hockey League contest at Cochenour Arena.

Special teams allowed the GM Ice Dogs to secure the lone tally of the first period as Braeden Allkins connected on the power play at 11:29.

Sidney Gladue tied it for the Miners with a man advantage effort of his own near the six-minute mark of the second stanza.

Dryden came right back however with shorthanded marker from Nic Noseworthy and one at even strength courtesy of Jacen Bracko to go up 3-1.

After Michael Di Lullo got one back from English River, on the power play, at 12:47, the GM Ice Dogs once again countered with a pair of quick strikes from Cody Wardner and Tristan Knott to go up 5-2 after two.

Austin Kuhn tipped in the night’s final goal in the third for the Miners’ third man advantage effort of the night to finish off the scoring.

Patrick Zubick made 42 saves to record the win for Dryden.

Spencer Eschyschyn started for English River and suffered the loss allowing four against on 21 attempts while Michael Lenko handled 19 of 20 in close to 26 minutes of relief.
