Surging GM Ice Dogs win again with triumph over Lakers

DRYDEN, Ont. – The surging Dryden GM Ice Dogs picked up another victory Monday as they defeated the Fort Frances Lakers 3-1 in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Memorial Arena.

Braedyn Allkins opened the scoring for Dryden 3:39 into the contest to put the home side in front early.

Special teams allowed the Lakers to knot it at 1-1 three minutes later when Jack Bernie picked up his 13th of the season during a Fort Frances power play.

Allkins added another at 13:52 of the first period as he notched the eventual game-winner and league-leading 33rd of the campaign at 13:52 during a man advantage.

The GM Ice Dogs got one more just 13 seconds later courtesy of Kris Hamlin in what turned out to be the final goal of the night.

Dryden’s Patrick Zubick and Brandon Bodnar of the Lakers shut the door from there keeping each side off the board the rest of the way.

Nic Noseworthy dished out three assists for the GM Ice Dogs in the triumph while Allkins also had a three-point night with a helper on Hamlin’s marker.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured Dryden by a 32-30 count with Zubick picking up the win and Bodnar the loss.

With the result the first place GM Ice Dogs improved to 13-0-1-0 in their past 14 outings and a league-best 32-4-4-0 overall.

As for fifth place Fort Frances, they slipped to 18-16-2-3 on the season in defeat.
