Early outburst sends GM Ice Dogs past Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs used the strength of three first period goals to help send them on their way to a 7-2 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Friday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Dryden came out strong in the opening frame to take control on tallies from Eric Stout, Trey Palermo and Malcolm Huemmert.

Minnesota got on the board 4:35 into the middle stanza as Aaron Koivunen was awarded a penalty shot and made no mistake with his opportunity by beating Dryden netminder Jacob Gnidziejko.

However the visitors came right back, countering just eight seconds later, thanks to a Reid Manning effort.

Mihali’s See’s fourth of the campaign brought the Iron Rangers back to within two later in the frame to make it 4-2 after 40 minutes.

The GM Ice Dogs put the game away in the third though with three more markers to finish off the road win.

Cory Dennis started the frame with his 12th of the year before Huemmert and Evan Walls rounded out the scoring for Dryden.

Kris Hamlin and Burke Johnstone chipped in with two assists apiece in the triumph.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured the GM Ice Dogs 42-25 with Gnidziejko icking up the win while Rob Ivy suffered the loss.
