DRYDEN, Ont. – A Keilan Toews tally two and a half minutes into overtime capped off a five-point night as the Red Lake Miners pulled out a 6-5 decision over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs Friday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League encounter at Memorial Arena.
Braden Shea staked Dryden to an early lead, but Ethan Stuckless drew Red Lake level at 7:07.
The GM Ice Dogs then went back on top late in the first on an Eric Stout effort.
The back and forth affair saw Spencer Milne tie it for the Miners 48 seconds into the middle frame only to see Shea strike once more to make it 3-2 Dryden.
Red Lake picked it up in the back half of the stanza and scored three times as Kyle Uzelman clicked on the power play and Stratton Pickett connected at even strength before Stuckless struck shorthanded to make it 5-3 Miners after 40 minutes.
Battling back in the third, the GM Ice Dogs rallied for force extra time when Evan Walls converted during a man advantage opportunity at 6:44 while Shea finished off his first SIJHL hat trick two minutes later.
Heading to OT, it was Toews that won it for Red Lake in capping off the road victory.
Bryce Young had two assists for the Miners as did Trey Palermo and Curtis Magas for Dryden.
Goaltender Zach Willms made 45 stops to pick up the win while counterpart Jordan Wilde faced 26 shots in defeat.
