DRYDEN, Ont. – The Thief River Falls Norskies stormed back from a two-goal, third period deficit by scoring four times in under a 10-minute span to surprise the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 6-4 Friday night in a Superior International Junior Hockey League encounter Friday at Memorial Arena.
Each side would strike once in the opening frame with Arlin Schell notching his first SIJHL marker for Dryden while Michael Crosbie’s initial league effort countered for the Norskies.
The GM Ice picked up the pace in the middle stanza and were rewarded with goals from Matthew Pitchenese and Eric Stout to go up by a pair.
After newcomer Tyler Browning made it 4-1 Dryden early in the third during a man advantage opportunity, it was all Thief River Falls after that.
Crosbie brought the visitors closer at 4:59 with another while Boe Bjorge, via the power play, made it a one-goal game just prior to the midway mark of final session.
Building on their momentum, the Norskies then tied it up just 27 seconds later on a Tate Steffan effort.
Thief River River Falls then completed the comeback with 5:25 to go as Tyler Montoya buried the game-winner with his first SIJHL goal.
Alec Severson and Matt Boren dished out two assists for the Norskies in the win while netminder Fletcher Bolda made 36 stops in the come from behind victory.
Braden Shea had a couple of helpers in defeat for Dryden with goaltender Jordan Wilde suffering the setback seeing 44 shots fired his way.
