North Stars rally to defeat GM Ice Dogs

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars rallied from a two-goal deficit midway through the game to pull out a 6-3 victory over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs in Superior International Junior Hockey League action Sunday at Memorial Arena.

The match-up of the long-time rivals saw Dryden get the early edge with a pair of first period markers courtesy of Cameron Coutre, on the power play, and Rayman Bassi at even strength, late in the session.

Thunder Bay got on the board half way through the middle stanza when Keighan Gerrie connected during a man advantage opportunity.

They then drew level at 14:08 of the frame on Ben Erwin’s equalizer.

Heading to the third, the North Stars kept coming and took the lead 31 seconds in on a Thomas Brassard left point effort that bounced off a Dryden defender and in.

Gerrie then made it 4-2 Thunder Bay with his second of the game at 8:34 before Ryan Mignault notched his team-leading 28th 70 seconds later to put the visitors up by three.

The GM Ice Dogs did get one back thanks to Trygve Many Guns at 11:38 only to see Michael Stubbs round out the scoring for the North Stars a couple shifts later.

Alex Erwin had two assists for Thunder Bay as did Dryden captain Trey Palermo.

Shots on goal saw the North Stars hold a 46-29 edge with Brock Aiken picking up the win while Jacob Anthony suffered the loss.
