Stout scores 3 as Dryden ends Thunder Bay’s winning streak at 13

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Eric Stout scored three times while teammate Rayman Bassi tallied twice and assisted on two others as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs went on to dump the Thunder Bay North Stars 7-4 in Superior International Junior Hockey League encounter Saturday at the Fort William Gardens.

With the outcome Dryden snaps Thunder Bay’s 13-game winning streak in the process with the decision over their long-time rival.

The GM Ice Dogs notched the lone marker in the first frame when Cameron Coutre collected his 20th goal of the season at 7:44.

Bassi then struck shorthanded early in the second to put the visitors up by a pair.

After Brendan Gillis put the North Stars on the board with a power play marker at 8:11, Stout and Bassi connected 32 seconds apart to make it 4-1 Dryden.

Maxime Fortin got one back for the home side at 16:47 only to see Brody Nielsen supply his first SIJHL goal at 18:08 as the GM Ice Dogs carried a 5-2 cushion into the intermission.

It was more Dryden 7:22 into the third as Stout added another.

Thunder Bay battled back with tallies from Josh Bryant and Logan Mihalcin to pull within two, but Stout iced it with a late empty netter to finish off his hat trick and secure the solid road victory.

Curtis Magas also had a big night for the GM Ice Dogs as he dished out four assists.

With 27 saves, Jacob Anthony recorded the win for Dryden who handed North Stars’ netminder Brock Aiken his first loss in regulation and second overall.

Aiken faced 49 shots in the loss.
