Dryden takes 1st of 2 vs. Minnesota

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs saw Tyler Browning, Curtis Magas and Evan Pakkala all tally twice as they went on to defeat the Minnesota Iron Rangers 9-2 Friday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play on Hockey Fights Cancer Night at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Dryden took control early by skating out to a 5-0 lead after one period of play with Pakkala scoring twice while Eric Stout, Browning and Magas added singles.

Brody Nielsen and Rayman Bassi extended the visitors cushion in the second stanza before Cam Birkeland put Minnesota, who were sporting special purple Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys, on the board at 11:13.

Browning, at even strength, and Magas, via the power play, picked up markers for the GM Ice Dogs in the third before the Iron Rangers’ Joe Lech rounded out the scoring.

Kyle Sargent and Trygve Many Guns chipped in offensively for Dryden with three assists apiece.

Jordan Wilde recorded the win for the GM Ice Dogs while Nick Corneliusen and Synjen Amende both saw time between the pipes for Minnesota in the loss.

The same two teams will meet again Saturday at 7 p.m. with the contest being held at the Hippodrome in Eveleth, Minn., adjacent to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.
