Flett tallies twice as Lakers hold of GM Ice Dogs

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – MacKenzie Flett tallied twice for the Fort Frances Lakers Friday night as part of a 5-4 triumph over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs in a back and forth Superior International Junior Hockey League affair at Ice for Kids Arena.

Each side would score twice in the first period with Dryden’s Xavier Halterman and Ethan Carlson-Jourdain trading goals before the contest was seven minutes old.

The clubs then exchanged man advantage markers late in the session with Flett connecting for the Lakers before Curtis Magas countered for the GM Ice Dogs less than a minute later.

Dryden’s special teams got them the lead midway through the middle stanza compliments of a Nolan Marshall power play effort.

Flett then drew the home side level 25 seconds into the third with his second of the night and fourth of the campaign.

Then, recently acquired forward Mattieu Harrold notched his first SIJHL goal at 8:03 to put the Fort back in front for good.

The Lakers then got the eventual game-winner off the stick of Noah Loveday with an assist from Harrold.

Dryden did get one back in the final minute with Dylan Winsor picking up the GM Ice Dogs’ third extra man effort of the night.

Shots on net also favoured Fort Frances by a 48-33 margin with Dylan Kosik picking up the win while Knute Loe made 43 stops in defeat.
