Lifelong and new fans of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs will be able to learn more about the team’s storied history through a new partnership with a distinguished author.

The Ice Dogs have entered into a partnership with Dr. Jordan R Goldstein to curate a history of the team from its 2001 inception to the present day, which will include a printed book, a documented history and a Wikipedia page.
President Mike Sveinson says it’s exciting to see the history of the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s longest-standing team be retained and shared with future generations of hockey fans.
“As the executive of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs, we take very seriously our duty of ensuring the long-term viability of the club years into the future.
“Running alongside that duty is the equally important job of preserving its history; and now, as we bridge the gap between our 20th and 25th campaigns that job will be handed to Dr. Jordan Goldstein.
I believe Jordan is the perfect man for the job of procuring, preserving, and presenting a thoughtful account of the history of our collective, community-owned franchise,” he adds.
The team says Dr. Goldstein’s love of hockey, combined with his academic background, makes him a great fit for the project – which is expected to be completed by the 2023-2024 season.
“Re-creating a similar physical space to commemorate the team’s physical history. Creation of a substantial historical narrative including key dates, personalities, events, and transformation in the team’s 20+ year history.”
“Producing a digital and physical presentation of that narrative. Create a technical history of the club for internal administrators to be a practical and historical resource on running the team,” he explains.
Dr. Goldstein graduated with his Ph.D. in Kinesiology in 2016 from the University of Western Ontario. He’s been a professor of sport history, philosophy and sociology and Wilfrid Laurier University since 2015, and published his first book ‘The Athletic Hero’ in 2020.
